Objetivos

Independent vantage user. The ability tounderstand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in the student's field of specialisation.Being able tointeract with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Production of clear, detailed textson a wide range of subjects and the ability to explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Independent strong vantage user. The ability to manage conversation through the use of co-operating strategies such as giving feedback on and following up statements and inferences of other speakers and so help the development of the discussion; relate own contributions skillfully to those of other speakers. Being able to use a limited number of cohesive devices to link sentences together smoothly into clear ,connected discourse; use a variety of linking words efficiently to mark clearly the relationships between ideas; develop an argument systematically with appropriate highlighting of significant points, and relevant supporting detail. There is a concentration of items on negotiating; outline a case for compensation, using persuasive language and simple arguments to demand satisfaction; state clearly the limits to a concession.

Metodología didáctica y sistemas de evaluación

Two-and-a-half-hour session, twice a week.
Annual course lasting 120 hours divided into twoterms (B2+.1/B2+.2)

A communicative method with an emphasis on interaction between students and which relates what islearned in the classroom with real-life situations. All classes will be entirely in English.

ENGLISH B2+.1

GRAMMAR B2+.1:
1. Present tenses. Future tenses. Time clauses. Relative. Relative clauses.
2. Past tenses. Used to – would – be/get. Clauses of result. Articles. Order of adjectives. Adverbs. Gradable/non gradable adjectives.
3. Reported speech. Special introductory verbs.
4. Modals. Infinitive /- ing form.
VOCABULARY B2+.1:
1. Jobs & money. Lifestyles. Character. Prepositions/phrasal verbs/word formation/idioms.
2. Travel experiences. Going places. Travel. Money. Shopping. Prepositions/phrasal verbs/word formation/idioms.
3. Environmental problems. Social issues. Natural disasters. The weather. Prepositions/phrasal verbs/word formation.
4. Body language. Stages in life. Moods & feelings. Hobbies. Prepositions/phrasal verbs/word formation/idioms
LISTENING B2+.1:
1. Announcements (sentence completion; T/F statements). A job interview (multiple choice). Pronunciation: /h/ silent.
2. A radio interview (multiple choice). Monologues (matching speakers). Pronunciation /iǝ/, /i:/, /ei/, /ai/
3. A lecture (answer questions, note taking. A TV interview (answer questions; discuss an issue; multiple choice). Pronunciation /u/, /ʌ/, /ʊ/, /j/.
4. Monologues (matching speakers). A radio interview (multiple choice, T/F statements). Pronunciation double letters: /ʃ/, /ʧ/, /f/; /o/

SPEAKING B2+.1:

1. A job interview. Compare jobs
2. Report lost property. Describe things. Express choice/reason. Prioritise/recommend.
3. Introduce topic. Express disgust. Express concern. Express hope. Compare& contrast pictures.
4. Ask about/express feelings. Express sympathy. Express regret. Express opinion/give reasons.

WRITING B2+.1:

1. A paragraph explaining if you would like to be a shark expert. A formal letter of application for a job (formal style).
2. A paragraph giving reasons why someone should visit Sri Lanka. A story (using adjectives/adverbs; sequence of events).
3. A paragraph suggesting ways to help protect a place. An essay suggesting solutions to a problem (linking words).
4. A paragraph giving reasons why stress can be good for people. An opinion essay (linkers; topic sentences; supporting sentences)
