Content

Verification of loudspeaker features and specifications is a key issue for loudspeaker manufacturers. Beyond the classical and well-known Thiele/Small parameters, further aspects such as cone vibration and non-linearities are of great importance in the final response of the transducer. In this course, comprehensive tools for diagnosis of major transducer problems will be tackled in detail, with the goal of providing solutions to ensure low distortion and stable operation.

The course will cover the latest advances developed by the renowned Klippel company, including education material and demonstration. The tentative program includes the following topics:

1. Welcome and introduction to the course

2. Measurements in Small Signal Domain
This includes modeling and measurement of linear lumped parameters; measurement of distributed mechanical parameters (cone vibration analysis and diagnostics); sound radiation and room interaction.

3. Large Signal Performance
Non-linear behavior due to large signal domain will be introduced, and a relationship between physical causes and symptoms will be given.

4. Other loudspeaker defects
This includes other distortion causes such as Rub and Buzz, as well as time-variant properties derived from power handling, heating or ageing.

5. Psycho-acoustical interpretation
How is the audio quality affected by all these problems? How do we perceive all them?

6. Meaningful loudspeaker specifications
